NO MORE TITHING!

(This was a note sent to our OHM family. I felt I needed to post it here as well. I believe it's time to rethink the tradition of tithing in favor of something more consistent with the kingdom of God, something that gives life - RELATIONSHIP.)

NO MORE TITHING!
I want to reiterate what I said this past Saturday - NO MORE TITHING! I know many of us have been taught tithing since we were little (10% to God, 10% to savings, and 80% to do what you want with). But Holy Spirit has made it clear that tithing is from old covenant, a law that we need to be set free from.

Tithing is stealing away the fullness of relationship Holy Spirit desires with us. The Lord is in the process of wooing 100% of our hearts, not 10%. As we grow in relationship with God, we get to listen to Holy Spirit for what He wants to do through us, how He wants to invest His resources entrusted to us. Therefore, we're encouraging everyone to pray and LISTEN TO HOLY SPIRIT for how He may want to invest in the Pfeiffer family. When the Lord called our family into this season of life and ministry, He made it clear He would provide; we were not to become dependent on people, but rather God.

I say this with love and respect - It's not about what you want to give, but what Holy Spirit stirs in your heart. That may mean some give more, while others give less. That may mean Holy Spirit stirs in your heart to help another family in our community, or another ministry elsewhere, or the homeless person down the road, or to take your family on that MUCH NEEDED VACATION YOU'VE FELT TOO GUILTY TO TAKE! We only want what you to invest in us what Holy Spirit encourages you to give, nothing more and nothing less. In the end, you'll never be accountable to us for what you do, only to the Lord. The Kingdom of God is about relationship, not obligation and law. They tell me without tithes the church would lose everything...I guess it's time we start trusting in God again; He is our provider.

How we invest our resources is a matter of GROWING RELATIONSHIP with Holy Spirit. We need to give ourselves and one another permission to grow, learn, make mistakes, stumble, fall and succeed. We don't figure it out overnight, but God's promise is that He will take care of us every step of the way as we remain in relationship with Him! So, again, I say - YOU'RE FREE from tithing, so you can make space for your heart to become more and more ONE WITH GOD, doing what He's doing. One of the most frustrating things about Jesus for the people around him is that He never did what they wanted Him to do, only what Father told him. We want to be a people, who like Jesus, say - "It is the Father, living in me, who is doing his work (Jn 14:10)."

Save what Holy Spirit tells you to save. Buy what Holy Spirit tells you to buy. Share what Holy Spirit tells you to share. Jesus says it simply - "My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you (Jn 15:12)." Jesus loves us exactly the way the Father tells him to. Remember, Jesus only did and said what he saw Father doing and saying. The normal Christian life is SPIRIT-LED, not flesh-led. Sure, it's difficult, but the reward is heaven on earth.
